Event Committees

The HGS Event Committees are responsible for the various events brought to the membership of the Houston Geological Society. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring one of these committees, see the summaries below and click on the committee page link.

100th Anniversary of HGS - In 2023, Houston Geological Soceity will turn 100 years.

Exhibits Committee - The Exhibits Committee publicizes the HGS and represents the Society at conventions and other appropriate meetings. The committee is responsible for transporting and manning the HGS exhibits booth at the AAPG, GCAGS and local conventions.

Field Trip  Committee - The Field Trip Committee provides opportunities to see and learn more about field examples of geologic processes of interest to geologists in the Houston area. The committee organizes society field trips, maintains the virtual field trip section of the society's web page, and provides information on field trips by other related groups. Sites for field trips are selected to recognize new discoveries or new interpretations of previously visited localities, and to provide classic field examples of geologic processes for new members. Our meetings are generally held at the HGS office at 5:30 in the evening on the fourth Thursday of each month.

Fishing Tournament Committee - The basic function is to organize and publicize the annual HGS Fishing Tournament social event.

Golf Tournament Committee - The basic function is to organize and publicize the annual HGS Golf Tournament social event.

Guest Night Committee - The Guest Night Committee is responsible for the annual event fro HGS members to invite a guest  and enjoy an evening of entertainment. For the past few years the event has been held at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and included a tour or the museum, a catered buffet dinner, pen bar, guest speaker and ended with a I-Max Movie.

HGS General Dinner and Luncheon Committee -

Mudrocks Committee - The Mudrocks committee organizes the annual Mudrocks Applied Geoscience Conference.

Shrimp Peel Committee - The basic function is to organize and publicize the annual HGS Shrimp Peel social event.

Skeet Shoot Committee - The basic function is to organize and publicize the annual HGS Skeet Shoot social event.

Technofest Committee - The Technofest Committee organizes and sponsors a fun and educational way to view the latest technology and research presented by approximately 40 vendors in an exhibit-hall style display. It’s also a great place to see old friend/colleagues, socialize, and network.

Tennis Tournament Committee - The basic function is to organize and publicize the annual HGS Tennis Tournament social event.
