University of Wisonsin-Madison seeking Lab Assistant

We are hiring an Instrumentation Technologist who can help design rock mechanics apparatus for decadal scale rock mechanics testing, manage and maintain the Rock Mechanics Lab, and help students and researchers perform experiments. We are looking for someone with electrical and/or mechanical engineering and programming skills, capable of developing an automated control system for very long-term experiments.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
• BS Degree required, focus in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field

Desired Experience:
* Experience with hydraulic systems and high-pressure systems
* Experience with rock mechanics apparatuses
* LabVIEW programming skills

Required Experience: 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Development of the decadal-scale testing system
* Design/build temperature-controlled fluid circulation system
* Design/build a temperature control system
* Implement prototypes in the existing pressure vessels and conduct preliminary tests
* Design failure-safe system
* Design low-cost pressure vessels for mass-production

User training and supervision:
* Training on equipment usage to new and visiting students and researchers
* Development of standard operational procedures for equipment in the lab

Lab Management:
* Maintenance and upgrade of existing rock mechanics deformation apparatuses in the Rock Mechanics Lab and Sample Preparation Lab
* Communicating with university administration to comply with university rules

Education: 
BS Degree-required, focus in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field
