It has been a profound honor and a great privilege to work with every HGS Board Member, Committee Chair and their hardworking Members, to our vital HGS Educational Outreach and Scholarship Program Volunteers; and, of course, our great HGS Office Staff, Andi Peoples and Alyssa Cushing. We literally could not have had such a successful year without every one of you.
HGS in June 2022
As HGS Members and Volunteers begin June 2022, the HGS Annual Elections are complete, with Congratulations to our new roster of Volunteers in Service to the Society:

Although most of the HGS’ technical presentations for the 2021–2022 are complete, in preparation for graduations and the start of summer vacations, the HGS still will maintain core services. There will be one Cont Ed Couse in June (see below), with no technical presentations in July and August during the core summer vacation months.
On Friday, June 10, 2022, the HGS Continuing Education Committee will present the second of two courses on Well Log interpretation. The second one-day courses: Well Logs: Beyond Basics. Re, quires individual registration and cost; and provides a separate CEU. Be sure to register to continue enhancing your log interpretation skills! And a BIG shout out to the HGS Continuing Education Co-Chairs, Thom Tucker and Cheryl Desforges for continuing the tradition of exceptional quality in HGS’ Cont Ed Courses.

The HGS-EAGE Conference on Latin America: Call for Papers Deadline is Saturday, June 25, 2022
Abstracts should be submitted via the EAGE website using the downloadable template.

The Fourth EAGE/HGS Conference on Latin America: topic is: “Exploring Latin America’s role in the Future Energy Mix” The event will be held in Cartagena, Colombia from Wednesday September 14th through Friday September 16th, 2022.
The Technical Committee invite practitioners, innovators and industry experts to contribute to this workshop and share their achievements and challenges, lay out big innovative ideas and seek new alliances to jointly develop a road for the future. Contributors are welcome to submit abstracts of 2-4 pages in length. Submission for posters & oral presentations is welcome on all topics. Professionals, Bachelor, Master or PhD students are invited to share their work.

After the successful event in 2021 under the Houston Geological Society, the Houston Geoscience Expo continues the 22-year event in Fall 2022. More info about the Student Expo will be released soon. CALL FOR PAPERS: The HGS/PESGB Africa Conference has built a reputation for hosting high-quality technical talks focused on the geology of the African continent and conjugate margin. In 2022, the conference will focus on how Africa transitions over the next decade.
Conference Overview
The 21st annual HGS-PESGB Africa Conference will be held 26-28 September 2022 and will include both in-person and virtual events. Join us for an in-person networking reception on September 26th at the Norris Center in Houston, TX. Then, virtually attend the technical program on September 27th and 28th. The conference will end with an in-person social on September 28th, pending sponsorship commitment.

SUMMER BEGINS
After ten issues of the 2021-2022 HGS Bulletin, it’s time to turn over the reins and welcome our incoming Editor, Ken Thies and Editor – Elect Caroline Wachtman for their September 2022 issue. I have full confidence that Ken and Caroline will bring the HGS Bulletin to ever greater success for the HGS 100th Anniversary Year in 2023.
Special recognition from the Editor goes to HGS Vice President Patty Walker for her stellar lineup of Luncheon and Dinner speakers, as well contributing many of our impressive Bulletin Covers. Bravo, Patty! Further Special Recognition goes to North American Committee Chair Mark Hamzat and his tireless Committee.
