2023 HGS Grand Canyon Field Trip

1 - 8 June 2023

2023 dates: joining the trip in Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 1st and returning to Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 8th. This is a full canyon raft trip with 7 nights on the river, plus the first night in Marble Canyon. Cost is $4650 per person and includes bus transportation from Las Vegas to Marble Canyon through Zion National Park, double occupancy room at Cliff Dwellers Lodge, 8-days/7-nights on the river including a sleep kit and all meals on the river, drinks on the river, and transportation back to either Las Vegas or Marble Canyon (if you prefer to drive yourself to and from Marble Canyon). Not included is transportation to and from Las Vegas, meals at Marble Canyon (dinner and breakfast), tips for the river guides, and any souvenirs you may wish to purchase. PRE-TRIP LODGING DATE: May 31, 2023

Travel 188 miles from Lees Ferry to Whitmore Wash.

- The day BEFORE your launch, check in at your pre-trip lodging location at 4:00 pm.

- On your launch date, we will meet you in front of Cliff Dwellers restaurant at 8:30 am.

- On the last day of your trip, your helicopter flights out of the canyon will begin at 7:00 am.

Hatch staff will make pre-trip lodging arrangements for you. Double or more occupancy lodging at Cliff Dwellers Lodge or another comparable lodge in Marble Canyon the night before your rafting trip is complimentary. Single occupancy rooms may be available for a fee (contact our office to inquire about availability).

Trip Leaders:

Mattie Reid 

Mattie Reid graduated from Bucknell University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and later earned a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Iowa in 2017. Mattie worked at the U.S. Geological Survey in the Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center in Denver, CO, where she was involved in studies related to geochronology of regions with mineral deposits. In 2018 Mattie joined Anadarko Petroleum in the Midland office, and then transitioned to Oxy in 2019. Mattie is currently an Appraisal Geologist working in the Delaware Basin. Mattie grew up exploring the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming, which lead to her love of many outdoor activities including hiking, running, biking and climbing! Mattie attended the 2021 HGS Grand Canyon trip with Ross Harrison and is excited to go back in 2023!

Ross Harrison 

Ross Harrison holds a BA in English from TCU, a BS in Geology from LSU, and an MS in Geology from TCU. Ross worked supporting various modern sedimentology projects related to the Mississippi River Delta and Louisiana Gulf Coast at the LSU Coastal Studies Institute while at LSU and completed a depositional environment study of various formations in the CBM-producing Raton Basin while at TCU. Ross has been at Oxy in the Permian EOR Business Unit since interning in 2017, working large carbonate and mixed carbonate-siliciclastic conventional reservoirs undergoing secondary and tertiary recovery. Ross enjoys doing anything in the sun, including but not limited to running, climbing, fishing, hiking, reading, and learning. He attended the 2021 HGS Grand Canyon trip and could not get enough.

Registration Deadline: October 28, 2022

**Deposit of $1,000 per person due on the day of registration. Final Balance Due MUST be made by February 1, 2023**

HGS Grand Canyon Field Trip Cancelation Policy: If a registrant must cancel his/her reservation more than 120 days before the trip (February 1, 2023), the registrant will forfeit your initial non-refundable, non-transferable deposit. Any amount the registrant has paid beyond the initial deposit will be refunded minus a 5% processing fee. After October 28, 2022, any guest substitutions or cancelation will be subject to a $200 change fee. Substitutions within 30 days will not be allowed.

Hatch River Expeditions policy for Grand Canyon Field Trip cancelation: After October 28, 2022, any guest substitutions or cancelation will be subject to a $200 change fee. Substitutions within 30 days will not be allowed. If a registrant must cancel his/her reservation for the Grand Canyon Field Trip less than 120 days prior to the trip, no refunds will be made and registrant will forfeit any submitted funds to Hatch River Expeditions.
