DESIGNED FOR Geologists who wish to acquire the skills and techniques to design and deliver dynamic presentations.
OVERVIEW: Industry personnel sometimes find it difficult and uncomfortable to express themselves when presenting information to people inside – and outside – their organization. Some geologists are naturally gifted speakers, but anyone can learn to make effective, effortless, and well-crafted presentations with instruction and guidance.
OBJECTIVE: By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to present technical material clearly, confidently, and convincingly.
CONTENT: The workshop will focus on: • Communication and the role it plays in presentation making • Overcoming presentation fears • The four fundamentals basic to presentation design and delivery a. Presence/Demeanor/Appearance • Posture/Movement/Physical Comfort b. Delivery • The voice • Gestures / facial expressions • Skill in using silence • Rhythm • Language c. Production • Flow/rhythm • Skill in using visual aids/technology • Skill in using time • Skill in using venue • Connectivity o Eye Contact o Knowledge of audience o Skill in handling audience/situation d. Construction & Organization • Design (presentation) • Design (ppt. slides/other visuals) • Integration (presentation with visuals) • Language
METHODOLOGY: A variety of learning methods will be used to help attendees practice and hone their presentation making skills: • Lecture • Demonstration • Group discussion • Group activities and exercises
