Collect at the most fossiliferous locality in Texas! Join this year's family-friendly Earth Science Week field trip to the famous Stone City Bluffs on the Brazos River. Arrive any time between 11am and 3pm. We'll orient you at the top of the outcrop and you can then procede to stations staffed by voluneer interpreters in bright-colored safety vests.
The outcrop is Eocene, Stone City member of Crockett Formation, and contains over 250 species of marine fossils.
For digging, simple garden tools are all you need. Sandwich bags to hold your finds and a small amount of aluminum foil to strengthen more delicate specimens are useful. Bring water and dress appropriately for the weather. There are no facilities closer than Cooks Point, 15 miles away. There is poison ivy and you will probably get wet and muddy. Children must be chaperoned at all times.
Outcrop details, fosiil collecting guides, and maps may be found at

Look for "Whiskey Bridge" and "downloads" near the bottom of the right-hand column.
