(1) What is the HGS GeoJob
Bank?
The Houston Geological Society GeoJob Bank provides employment
opportunities, a place for members to post resumes,
and a variety of employment information to
interested members of the Houston Geological Society
and the geological / geophysical community at large.. With over
2900 positions posted since
September 1996 and increasing
almost daily, it
is one of the leading sources of oil industry opportunities based
on the fact that our "Current GeoJob Listings" page
listed 516
positions and received nearly 145,000 "hits" last
year!!!

(3)
Can I send the HGS my resume for a future opening?
Please
do not send your resume to Mike Cline, or the HGS
office -- we do not keep resumes on file. The
Personnel Placement Committee does not get directly
involved with a visitors job search, other than posting
the ads which are submitted to us. Alternately, if
you are an HGS member you
may post your resume on the website. This has a
distinct
advantage, in that an unlimited number of potential
companies, who may
seeking someone
like you to fill a current opening (which may
or may not have been posted on our website), can
see it.
(4)
How do I post my resume on the HGS website?
Resumes may only
be posted by HGS members. It's
a very simple process:
HGS members are already registered, so
please don't
register again. Be sure to use the appropriate
member registration info to log in--otherwise,
you won't be able to add your resume. If you don't
know your password,
please contact Dave Crane, the Webmaster, at webmaster@hgs.org.
If you are an HGS member,
you just need to login
in first. Then, "Add
a User Resume".
Or, you can click on any of
the several resume-related navigation links on the
website:
(a) within
the main
navigation bar ("GeoJob
Bank", or "My Information" buttons);
(b) at the bottom of the home page ("GeoJob
Bank Update" section); or (c) the User
page ("Add
a Resume").
Fill in all the available
fields that are applicable. Please
note that the resume fields, for "Experience" and
"Skills", will truncate any information
longer than 2000 characters. Be sure you
check the appropriate viewing boxes on
the resume submission form. Failure to do so,
will cause your resume information to be improperly
displayed. We recommend using the following settings:
Allow Anonymous View: No
Allow Site User View: Yes
Allow Member View: Yes
Status: Active
Display My Contact Information: Yes
Once the member has
been notified that their resume has been activated,
they can change any item in their resume,
once they are logged in to the website, with their
member login.
(5) Who can view my resume,
and how long will it remain active?
Any registered website visitor, who is logged in,
may view the member resumes. Website visitors may,
or may not, be HGS members.
HGS member resumes will
be displayed for one year from
the date that it is activated, unless we are notified
otherwise. They can also be extended, or reactivated,
after they have initially expired, if necessary.
