Speaker Dr. N. G. Saleri

Position: Chief Executive Officer and President
Company: Quantum Reservoir Impact, LLC

Event Description

Brave New World of Oil

Nansen G. Saleri

The topic of future oil supplies is both highly controversial and equally charged given the global anxiety spurred by high prices. The prevailing viewpoint among many energy analysts tends to point to an extended period of uncertainty and stagnation in oil supplies.

The theme of the presentation advocates an alternative scenario—a period of growth in oil supplies is upon us despite the massive challenges posed by growing resource nationalism/access, global warming concerns, or human reservoir constraints. The new era, however, will require a change of paradigms across the industry vis-à-vis organizational structures, National Oil Company engagement models, and bolder standards of performance in recovery and sustainability.

The majority of foreseeable challenges of the oil and gas industry are amply outweighed by a boom on several fronts—infusion of venture capital, burgeoning mobility of innovation and new thinking, and the rapid spread of new technologies into the subsurface extraction process. The latter are exemplified by new generation of wells and smart systems—key ingredients to the reinvigoration of many Saudi fields including the giant Ghawar, Abqaiq, Shaybah, and others.
