"HGS International Grows"

Posted here June 9, 1999

This year (1998-1999), the HGS International Dinner Meeting held the third Monday of each month has had attendance in the 70 to 90 persons range. This is a tribute to the excellent speakers, poster presenters, and vendor corners. It is also evidence of the increasing number of our HGS geologists working in the international arena!

We are continuing the policy of having posters. For example, there were four poster presentations with the April, 1999 talk about the Caspian region. Posters are a particularly valuable opportunity to look at data in detail and talk to the authors. Posters are up during the social hour before the meeting and remain up after the meeting for those who stay later to learn more.

Often, poster presentations are arranged after the Bulletin deadline, and thus do not get into the announcement. However, the Thursday before the meeting a fax announcing the speaker, topic, poster presentations, and vendor corners is sent to companies and universities for posting. If your organization is not getting a copy, please contact Jim Tucker at CGG (phone 281-646-2400; fax 281-646-2622) to get on the distribution list.

In addition, a new membership directory of HGS International members is now available at meetings.

We are an active and growing group. We invite you to come to our meetings and get involved with your fellow explorationists from many companies and countries.
